Original work: Genes Talking

Genes Talking was a real DNA laboratory achieving real genetic research in the theatre space of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) during July 2005. In collaboration with Professor Mandy Fisher from the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre and others, the lab was furnished, equipped, and staffed so that it was fully functioning. The science was based on the genetics of Specific language Impairment (SLI) from Tony Monaco's group at The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics. The event included an opportunity for the public to read some of the DNA sequences generated and contribute to the overall experiment. Genes Talking was funded by a Wellcome Trust People Award.
