Biography
Julie Webb gained a BSC Hons in Genetics at Aberdeen University. She then went on to do an Msc in Medical Genetics at Glasgow University. She then came South to begin a research career at The Royal Postgraduate Medical school studying the genetics of cardiovascular disease. She gained her PhD in 1985. She then went to the Institute of Child Health to research genetics of leukaemia which she carried on at the MRC Clinical Sciences Centre.
In the year 2000 she had the opportunity to get involved in a science-drama project, 'Safe Delivery', a play on modern genetic issues set in a laboratory. The experience led to a change of career. Since then she has worked on a number of science communication projects, most notably 'Genes Talking', an event which saw the installation of a live DNA sequencing laboratory in the theatre space of the Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) in London.
