Gene Therapy Starts to Deliver
Fri, 22nd Jun 2007, 15:19:22 | Category: Stuff I think is cool | Permalink
New scientist reports on one of the first demonstrations of gene therapy being successful today - patients were injected with a virus that put a new gene into brain cells, and demonstrated excellent results.
There's been a lot of hype about gene therapy, and not a lot to see for it recently, so it's very exciting to see some promises lived up to...

Google Reader

Whilst liking the concept of syndicated feeds such as RSS and Atom, I have always been a little unsatisfied with all the readers I've tried.
I used to run the Firefox extension sage in my sidebar, but it was never perfect. I also tried using Firefox live bookmarks but again, the style didn't quite suit me. My latest attempt was a gadget on the excellent google desktop which was very good, but didn't seem to offer complete support for displaying images and the like. Several of the feeds I wanted to read are web comics, so that wasn't quite right.
Anyway, I happened to be reading a random blog which had an interview with a respected blogger, and he said that he used Google Reader - I'd never heard of it before, so I checked out the link, and I have to say that it looks excellent.
Feed support is second to none, it handles everything perfectly - what's more, it's dead easy to organise all of your feeds into folders, and see which have been updated at a glance. Another feature that I like is that you can integrate it into your customised google search page, which is my homepage, meaning that any new feed is really obvious. As you move over each feed article in the reader, it can automatically mark it as read, and it really is like having an "inbox for the web". And of course, as it's web based, you can read it anywhere without having to install any software! Yey for web 2.0...
So yeah, go check it out, see what you think. You can even add my feed if you like!
Grindhouse Trailers

Been watching the trailers for Grindhouse, a soon to be released duet of films directed by Rodriguez and Tarantino (the list of their directed films at the start of the trailer is quite impressive).
Basically, I can't wait. (click here for the trailers)
